Wedding bells are ringing and the power of prayer!

Last night I met with my best friend Monica’s sister Susan for dinner and to do some bridal shower brainstorming. A lot goes into this, haha! We did get as much as we could get accomplished. Trying not to jump too far ahead of ourselves. We’ve picked a day and time, but first we need to secure a place to have it. Which that is in the works and then we’ll go from there. I only have one question; we’re limited to a two hour time period. Do any of you have suggestions as to what kind of games to play that might be fun and different? We’re stumped, and so thought I might ask for some of your ideas. So fire away :o)

Then after that I went to go visit my Aunt, please, please, continue to keep her in your prayers. There have been some complications. During the procedure on her heart there was a complication and blood started filling up around her heart. The procedure itself was a success besides this set back. They weren’t too concerned because the blood would usually absorb back into the body, but after a few days, it’s still not. She’s in a lot of pain and right now she’s at home. It’s nothing life threatening but tomorrow she might have to go back to the hospital and possibly be readmitted and they might have to go in and drain the blood that’s sitting around the heart. Like I said, nothing life threatening, but just more extensive then what she thought and more complicated and going to be a longer process of healing and getting through all of this then she would like. Last night as I was sitting there talking with her, something was telling me to pray for her, to just take her hand and tell her that I wanted to pray for her right then and there. Seriously, I was so close to doing it, that my heart was beating so fast. The reason it was beating so fast is because I don’t know where my Aunt stands in her relationship with the Lord. I believe a part of her believes but then there’s a part of her that’s hesitant. So I really just felt in my spirit to pray for her, and no sooner than I was going to do that, she and my grandma broke out into a conversation about prayer. And my Aunt proceeded to say that she wish people would stop saying they are praying for her because she said every time that someone prayed for her or said they were praying for her, that something bad happens, and she was referring to this whole ordeal with her heart procedure, and that she wished people would just say they wish her well and not mention praying. And nevertheless, I was stopped dead in my tracks. I was saddened, because there’s so much power in prayer. And I tried to let her know that and said that prayer is a good thing but sometimes our prayers are not always answered in the way we’d like and we don’t always understand God’s ways, but they are always PERFECT, and that she’s going to be fine but just needs a little patience while getting through all of this, even when it’s not turning out the way she’d like. A part of me wishes I’d gone ahead and prayed for her anyways, but maybe there was a reason I wasn’t to pray for her at that particular time. I have no idea. But there is huge power in prayer, so please continue lifting her up.

On a wonderful note, I got my car back yesterday and it’s back and looking better than ever. They cleaned the whole inside and everything, and whatever they cleaned it with made it smell mighty fine and so it feels like it’s brand spanking new. They went above and beyond. Don’t you love getting that kind of excellence in service??? :o)

WOW, say the word giveaway and people come flocking, haha!! I LOVE IT!! And loving this opportunity to give. Remember to stop back by tomorrow to find out the winner!!!! :o)

That has to sadden you that your aunt sees prayer as a "curse" or "jinx" in making things worse... maybe she needs to be reminded how much worse things COULD have gotten if maybe people WEREN'T praying!! mmm....

And fun... weddings are great... you can find some great ideas for wedding showers on line... I guess its how you want to do it - more games, food, present opening - lots of options - but 2 hours will FLY by!

I've always found that the toughest people to share your faith with are your family. I'm sorry your aunt doesn't understand what you do about God and the power of prayer. We'll keep praying for her heart - both medically and spiritually!

Thanks for sharing about your aunt, and I pray that the Lord gives you His wisdom and continued love for your family to know what to say and when to say it. I know the Lord will honor your heart in wanting to show them more of Himself.

As for games, one thing is fun is to come up with a list of 20 questions for the couple to answer (i.e. what was your first date? who will clean the bathrooms? what do you think about santa claus? etc...) Then get the groom on his own and video tape him answering all of these questions. Then at the shower, ask the same questions of the bride and play back the video of the groom answering the questions. See how the answers match up...it's quite hilarious and you can come up with some great questions for it. Have fun planning!

I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt. I will continue to pray for her health and her relationship with the Lord:)

On wedding games, I played one before where you split the group into 2 teams and use TP to make a wedding dress on someone. You have a certain time limit, like 2-3 minutes and the best dress wins! It was fun:) I've also played the 20 questions game where you ask the groom questions and see how well the bride can guess what the grooms answer was.

I'm so sorry about your aunt. It's so hard to open up to family sometimes, especially when they're already going through a tough time. I will be praying for her.

As far as the shower - I didn't really play any games at any of mine, but one cool thing my friends and family did were each bring a recipe card with their favorite recipe on it. I used those things ALL THE TIME when we first got married. And it's cool to have something from each person that they had to think about.

Don't be discouraged!! I know I don't know you, but I can see that you are a prayer warrior! God is preparing to use you in your aunt's life. Keep on praying!!

Ok...on to wedding showers! I love, love, love planning showers! One game I found online that I haven't used is a purse scavenger hunt. All the ladies get their purses and you call out an item (preferably an item related to weddings) "a wedding picture" and the ladies have to dig through their purse and the first one to bring it to you gets a prize.

One I have done is a trivia type game. I made little "paddle" type things using a popsicle stick with a circle on the top made of cute scrapbooking paper. One side is True and the other is False. Each person gets one and you ask questions about the couple. It's just a fun way to get to know the couple.

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. Have fun and I can't wait to see what you came up with!

(Sorry this is so long!!)

I will be praying for your aunt! :-)
My favorite thing we did at my bridal shower was the hosts had a big list of questions they asked my hubby (what's his fav color? where was your first kiss? etc) They had a big basket of small gifts from my registry and each one had one of the questions tied to it. If my answer matched his I got to keep the gift :-) (ps - they did give me all the gifs at the end) It was fun and creative!
