WIMAUMA did you send me here??

Let me explain! There's a little town in Florida called Wimauma, yes pronounced as Why-Mama, LOL! It holds alot of amazing memories for me because it has the best church camp in the history of church camps where I went for as many summers as I can remember growing up which was called Camp Wimauma. That was a no brainer, ha!

And that was the running joke, WIMAUMA did you send me here?

When the application came in the mail each year, I made my mom sit down immediately and fill it out and get it back out in the mail. I was just anal like that and also immediately put down the name of my best friend at camp so we were guaranteed to get in the same cabin. I was packed before you could say go.

Well, it was the summer of 1998 when I got that application and filled it out, you betcha, immediately, and put my friend down and we were good to go. We were in the transition from middle school to high school and so I decided to stick with the middle school aged kids that summer and go to the high school camp the following year. Well my best friend decided she wanted to hang out with the big kids that year and signed up for the high school camp by mistake when really she was supposed to go the next year to the high school camp. So you guessed it, we were NOT in the same cabin, and a matter of fact, we were NOT even at camp the same week, LOL...... So I was so bummed because I was like how am I ever going to get through camp without her because we were in the same cabin every year together.

Well that year I was able to meet some new people and make some new friends. Each year at camp certain cabins were paired up in teams and we would compete in competitions and at the end of the week whichever team had the most points each person on that team would receive the coveted trophy.

Out of all the years of going to camp my team never won, I was determined this was going to be the year.We had to compete in certain relay races, see which team could memorize the most scripture, and stuff like that.

Well, low and behold our team WON that year. To this day I just know it was my scripture memorization that pushed our team over the top, ha!! So you can better believe when I got home I called my friend and said see, when you mess up the camp weeks like that you miss out on the trophy, so just let that be a lesson, don't EVER let that happen again, ha!

Oh, those were some great times. I loved everything about camp, straight down to the cafeteria food (call me crazy), I had some amazing moments with God those weeks at camp, and I made a life-long friendship.

So do ya'll have any memories of camp you'd like to share??

And of course, this post wouldn't be complete without the picture of the trophy, haha! :)

See how it sparkles??

P.S.
Reading your comments from yesterday, I would say us few GMA lovers are out numbered by you Today fans, haha!!! But see in the trophy picture whats on my TV this morning?? :)

That sounds like a lot of fun. I never did church camp or any other camp for that matter really...but I did spend about 6 weeks of my summer for about 5 or 6 years at the boy scout camp while my dad worked. I don't understand why we stopped going there???!!! :) I love being on teams and having competitions!!

We didn't go to camp. Does that sound sad? It wasn't though, because my parents always made the summers fun. I'm not a competitive person by nature, so I probably would have stuck out like a sore thumb at camp. Sounds like you have some great memories of it!!

I hope you dont mind, but I came across your blog tonight and the song At the Foot of the Cross started playing. I just wanted to say thanks! Been totally stressed and overwhelmed this week with work, school and other stuff. I needed to hear that song more than anything. You made me realize i need to do something i havent done. Just give it all to God. I cant do it on my own like i thought i could. Thank you so much!!
