7:41am....Time to be vulnerable here!

What significance does 7:41am have you might ask?

At 7:41am this morning I drank my last soda!

For as long as I can remember soda has been my thing, as bad as it is for you, I’ve always loved it and have never been able to kick the habit. I’ve gone maybe a week without it and would fall right back into the trap.

I mentioned on the blog before where I was going to give it up, but obviously I have not.

Allow me to be vulnerable with you here.

I have ALWAYS struggled with my weight. Not in a huge way or anything but I have never ever felt comfortable in my own skin. I’m trying really really hard to remedy that because it’s not a good place to be.

I realize I am never going to be popsicle thin… my body is just never going to bless me in such a way. I’ve always been the one to have to work at maintaining and keeping the weight off. Granted I’m only 25 years old but my metabolism is just not the same and your body just changes, no getting around that.

I’m just going to come right out and say that I’ve probably gained about 10 pounds or more just in the last few months alone. I’m not happy about it. I want to make a change and the change starts with me.

I have horrible horrible eating habits. I’ll be honest. I put any food in my mouth without thinking twice. Doesn’t help I love food and appreciate all its goodness to the fullest, LOL. But I’ve come to realize that it’s become an emotional attachment for me. This is really scaring me. When I’m stressed and feeling all sorts of other emotions I go to food. When I’m sitting on the couch watching TV I have food in my hands.

Has anyone else struggled in this sort of way before?

My diet has got to change, the fast food has got to stop. So first I am eliminating soda out of the equation and drinking more water and I’m thinking I’ll see a huge difference in just this alone. Has anyone else found this to be true?

I’m not comfortable in my pants anymore and that does a number on your confidence. A lot of stuff is not fitting the same and I’ve been in denial and just overlooking the obvious. I have gained weight. I refuse to throw any of them away though because I desperately want to be able to be comfortable in them again.

And bathing suits.. Don’t even want to think about that. Makes me cringe. When I posted my Mother’s Day post where we were all out on the boat, I didn’t even post the picture where you could see me in my bathing suit.

So I look back on how I got to this point and can’t beat myself up about this. But all I can do is move forward and make a change. A change in my lifestyle. A change in the way I view myself. I want to take better care of this temple God has given me.

So I ask, what has helped you in this struggle as I’m sure I’m not alone in this? I can almost guarantee I am not.

Girl, I completely understand where you're coming from! I'm the same way...my jeans just don't fit the way I think they're supposed to! =.) Good luck with your lifestyle changes! You can do it!!

First- you are absolutely beautiful!

Second- I have always struggled with my weight as well. Recently, I joined WW again. Just eating smaller portions and making smarter choices has helped. It also makes me feel better.

And don't forget exercise! :)

Oh YES, I completely understand. I started drinking water in Feb. because of health issues. When my health stuff went away, I started drinking Sprite again and then I realized I would rather save the 140 calories for yummy food. Now, all I drink is water. I didn't think I could EVER do that. I LOVE food, too. I use livestrong.com to keep up with my calories and exercise, which helps a lot. I still eat my favorite foods but I just save my calories to eat them. I'll eat a salad for lunch where I can have a big piece of red velvet cake later. :) I think you are beautiful, too!! You go, girl! :)

I have stopped drinking soda twice. I loved not drinking it. Seriously!! Now, I'm back to drinking it again. I have to make that change though.

Oh friend - you KNOW I'm addicted to Diet Coke.. I try so hard to break it.. You are inspiring me today!!!!

First - you are so dang cute & dont look to have a weight problem at all - so dont be hard on yourself! But if you feel yucky (I get that) - then just do it slowly - dont jump into any sorta mad rush or you'll get frustrated. Maybe you just need small changes anyways - cutting back on soda may make a HUGE difference - or maybe just get a tad more exercise in... I know you'll get to where you want to be! You are one tough cookie!

I completely understand where you're coming from. When you're younger, somehow you don't gain as much weight but as you age, if you don't change your habits, somehow you end up heavier than you used to be.

I think you're going about this the right way - taking it one step at a time and not making huge drastic changes. Give yourself a week or two without soda and see where you are. I've heard that this can do wonders for you - both the way you look AND the way you feel.

Good luck!

lady, you are gorgeous!!
i think that if you cut out pop and exercise a few days a week you will see changes right away, just losing the few lbs you claim to have gained recently. i think you look perfect just as you are but i know what you mean about not feeling comfortable in your own skin.
i drink pop, about 1-2 a day but it is always diet. i love water though, i drink probably close to 100 ounces a day! when i'm tracking calories and workouts i use livestrong.com, i love that site!! there is a ton of great info on there as well.
best of luck hun, i know you can do it hun!!

As you know, I will be the first to SUPPORT whatever you decide you to do...but you DO NOT have a weight problem, girl. YOU might think you do...but you definitely DON'T!

However, if you'd like to help me with mine....hahahahaha...okay, I wasn't joking about mine, but we aren't talking about me, are we?!?

Anyway, you can totally give up pop. I've never been a BIG pop drinker. I'll drink it once in awhile but that's about it. However, I think you could even just limit it to once in awhile and you'd be fine!!

I'll be praying for you and your will power. You CAN do it!!

I pick the worst food to eat. I'm exactly like you, I don't think twice before popping anything and everything into my mouth. I need to learn to stop before I'm stuffed. Good luck. I know it is difficult. I'm right there with you.

You are SO not alone :) I'm definitely a diet coke addict! I've tried to cut it out, and have had some successes. I just try not to buy it in the first place. Or if I do (and I know this sounds silly) I keep it in my car! Then I have to go outside and downstairs to get and have to REALLY want one.

I've been doing the 30 Day Shred this month and actually seeing results, so I find myself eating better as a result - I don't want to lose all the progress I made exercising by eating poorly!

Good luck!

You are super strong to give up soda! I could never do that. I couldn't even give up Dr. Pepper when I was pregnant (they say you can have 2 a day). You don't strike me as someone who had weight problems, but everyone has their own complex and if you feel you could lose some weight, more power to ya! When you figure out the trick, please let me know b/c I've got to start losing this pregnancy weight soon!

Way to be lady. I gave up diet coke a few years ago and it was haaaaaard. But it was murdering my teeth!

First of all I am a new follower, and I just love your blog! I think what has helped me in the past, is just to take it one meal at a time. If I really mess up with a meal, then I start all over again with the next one, and don't beat my self up over it. Kind of like the old saying "one day at a time" but more condensed. :-)
I know you will do great!

I'm visiting from Barbie's blog and thought I'd say hello. :)

Good for you wanting to give up some bad habits. I'm with you I LOVE food, especially the bad for me kind full of sugar! Thank goodness, God put a natural desire for healthy things in me too and it has become a sort of hobby. I love drinking carrot juice because it's even more therapeutic than sugar! It tastes good, but mentally it's good too because as I drink it, I feel I'm succeeding in get healthier. I allow myself an occasional Starbucks and occasional sweet - but I try to limit them and increase the things that motivate me and make me feel better.

You are a beautiful lady. It's so nice to meet you.

So proud of you! Soda is POISON. Try to focus more on what is good for your body and less on your weight. I think that's a healthier way to look at things.

Look at it this way. all those low fat crackers etc... are made with MAN MADE things (poison, chemicals, etc..). Yeah, I refer to artificial additives and all that stuff as poison.

Anyway! I wrote a post on some of the healthy things that I eat on my blog, so maybe that will help. I am right there with you. I have about 10 lbs I'd like to lose, but I don't really know that that's the number because I don't weigh myself and focus on how things fit and how I feel.

Exercise is so important. I have been working more at that. So hard to stay consistent. And eating out is always hard. I'd say if you can, cut out bread that isn't whole grain. And fried foods...bye bye. Let yourself have one thing you love once a week.

I like snacking too. A lot of times it's by habit. Try to keep cut up veggie sticks on hand.

Sorry this was so long. I'm just so passionate about this stuff.

I completely understand. I am struggling a lot with this right now, food just tastes so darn good! But not liking what you look like doesn't feel so good...I'm your newest follower, and hopefully we can both get to where we want to be!

Good luck with giving up sodas. Thankfully I haven't been a big soda drinker. I tent to have issues with portion control. BUT after being on WeightWatchers since November I have lost 21 pounds. I would say it taught me a ton about controlling what I put in my mouth. Best Wishes however I think you look great just the way you are!

Amen sister. We all struggle with this. I would kick the coke habit and also try and stay away from Caffeine.

First of all: you're gorgeous and always will be!
Second of all: every girl feels this way at one time or another!
At least you're being proactive in your life and finding out what you want to change and then doing it!
I'm proud of you and love you!

Oh dear, I struggled with this beast after high school. And like you, I will NEVER be stick thin. But a few months ago, I decided to write down everything I ate that day. I didn't cheat because I was writing it down...I just ate like normal. When I looked up at the calorie intake I was consuming it was INSANE. And, I don't even eat large meals. It was what I was eating. I used the lose it app on my iphone and lost 10 lbs. I stay or should I say try to stay between 1500-1600 calories. I was having fast food for lunch often. I cut that and sodas out and I've done pretty good the past couple of months. It's work. It's not easy, but it's a lifestyle change. Good luck with it! Trust me, you are not alone. Email me anytime darling!!!!

Lauren! I just blogged about my weight and eating habits too! I'm in the exact same boat as you. I never thought I'd be able to shed weight but I've lost 11 lbs. in less than 4 weeks and I know you can too! Check out my blog for that post and if you have any questions, feel free to let me know! Good luck to you, honey!
