The greatest things in life aren't things!

Don't you just love it when you experience something or you have an "a-ha" moment and you can just see a blog post forming in your head, haha!

I think most of you, along with myself, when you drop your new cell phone on concrete for the first time, you just want to cry.

Why is that?

Because in reality it’s pretty silly, it’s just a phone. In most cases it doesn’t keep the phone from working, it still serves its purpose. But now, it’s just a little bruised up.

But it’s in our human nature to want to keep the phone looking perfect and looking unscathed, but it’s pretty much not possible. And frankly, when you think about it, life is not perfect and we don’t leave this life unscathed.

So it happened to me yesterday. I dropped my perfect looking Blackberry on the ground and now it has some battle wounds. I seriously wanted to cry and take a deep breath (might sound silly), and just had to remind myself, Lauren…. It’s just a phone.

Why do we hold so tightly to material things?

Because if all these material things were taken away, one of life’s greatest lessons would still remain… “The greatest things in life aren’t things.”

So everytime I look at my phone I think I can be reminded of that lesson, and be reminded that these battle wounds are nothing compared to those battle wounds that Jesus sacrificed for us.

And all this can be learned from a cell phone, who knew???

This is very similar to the message I heard at church yesterday, and it really spoke to my heart! And now here it is again. It's funny how preoccupied we can become with things...it's just stuff! It's funny how God puts the messages we need to hear right where we will see them. :)

Very DEEP, sister!! VERY DEEP! However, completely and most accurately TRUE! The greatest things in life AREN'T things even though there are times when we feel that THINGS should take such precedence. :)

I'm glad the beautiful Blackberry is still in working order, though. That would not be a fun, yet unexpected, expense to have to deal with right now!

Have a wonderful day! :) Call when you can chat!

Glad your phone is working- that would stink to have to go replace it! But you are so right- we place such a high value on things sometimes when things really aren't important! Thanks for this reminder today....

Good post. And I too bruised up my baby blackberry and was worried of hurting it further. I went on Amazon & bought a "skin" cover for $3.00. Great invention!

Isn't it amazing and sometimes funny the little places that God shows up when we are paying attention.

You are so philosophical. I am just like you... I have the exact same phone and I think it has decided to die on me today. And the amount of sadness I have is so stupid! Thanks for this reminder.

I left my Blackberry in the dressing room at a store the other day and I panicked. Ran through the mall to go find it. Crazy!

You're so right.

Hi Lauren. I love your blog. I came over from Katie's Keepers. I am so jealous that you are going to see Steven Curtis Chapman. I hope you have a great time. I LOVE Lady Antebellum too! Thanks for the little reminders. We all get so busy, we sometimes forget those little things that make us happy. Have a wonderful day!
